The GST Council is going to discuss the issue of waiver of late fees for non-filing of GST returns for August 2017 to January 2020 period. The meeting is expected to be held on 14th June, 2020. However, the CBIC had said that imposition of late fee is to ensure timely filing of returns and depositing of taxes due to the government. The government had already announced extension of GST returns for the period February, March, April and May 2020 till June 2020. No late fee will be charged for this period.
