The High Court of Punjab and Haryana had decided a PIL for reclassification of “AUS ingredients based sanitizer” within 12% GST Tariff bracket instead of 18%.It was contended that show cause notices were wrongly issued by the respondentunder a misconception that AUS ingredients based sanitizers are alcohol based. It was argued that such sanitizers were Ayurvedic/ Unani/ Sidha (AUS) ingredient based sanitizers and thus different from alcohol based sanitizers. Resultantly, the bench disposed of the appeal filed by the Haryana Ayurvedic Drugs Manufacturers Association against show cause notices issued by the Taxation authorities to the manufacturers of the AUS ingredients based sanitizers for depositing GST.
