The Odisha state GST Enforcement Squad had arrested the kingpin of a GST racket involved in the generation of fake invoices worth Rs.712 crore. He had passed on fake GST input of Rs.129 crores over multiple transactions routed through different chains. Kashmira Kumar Agrawal, Director of Madhumita Steels Industries Private Limited, had been arrested from Sambalpur as per the direction of S. K Lohani, Commissioner (CT & GST), Odisha. After regular escape, the mastermind was finally able to be arrested at Sambalpur. Other accused have been arrested earlier. During interrogation, it has been revealed that the proprietors of the fake firms were actually not carrying any business and sales and purchase transactions appearing in the returns were just a paper work. They have also revealed that they have neither deposited nor withdrawn any amount from the bank account opened in the name of their firm. Now, the Commissionerate is taking steps to recover the bogus ITC availed by such recipients of Odisha along with interest and penalty.
