Introduced in 2017, the GST had scrapped numerous taxes and brought a uniform tax reform structure. Three years after its implementation, the states are no alleging the central government has not stood by its promise and has not paid the constitutionally mandated ₹1.5 lakh crore of GST compensation to states for the months of April-July in the current fiscal year. The budget estimate for Centre’s GST collections was ₹7.43 lakh crore in 2018-19, the first full budget after GST’s implementation.
