Finance Secretary Ajay Bhushan Pandey has said that quantum of borrowing should be reasonable to meet GST shortfall. This should not impact the economy adversely. The Centre will continue requesting the opposition-ruled states to opt for the proposed borrowing plan. He said that authorisation would be taken from the states that repayment would be made only from the GST compensation cess. The repayment schedule would be made in such a manner that post June 2022, there should be enough collection in cess pool to pay the interest arising out of borrowing.
