GST Council is going to discuss the issue of compensation in its next meeting on August 27. Besides this, another meeting would be held on September 19 whose agendas would be discussed in due course. According to sources, the council could rationalize GST rates to meet the compensation shortfall. Sources had further said that GST Council has to decide on this issue rather than the central government. The Compensation cess has been dwindling since August 2019and the Centre had to dive into the excess cess amount collected during 2017-18 and 2018-19.
