The Madras High Court (HC) has refused to issue a direction to the Centre to release GST compensation of Rs.12,250 crore to the Tamil Nadu government. The Court has expressed “hope and trust” that money would be disbursed soon. A Division Bench has rued that it is not mandatory upon Centre to strictly comply with the timelines in compensating the States once in two months for shortfalls in GST collections.
