According to officials, the tourism industry may ask for relief from taxes for next six months incurred losses due to pandemic impact. It had sought for recommendation from industry bodies, including the Indian Association of Tour Operators (IATO), Federation of Associations in Indian Tourism and Hospitality (FAITH), World Travel & Tourism Council, and the Confederation of Indian Industries on March 19.In the domestic trade, which accounts for the major chunk of the trade, over 1.5 billion tourist visits are clocked in annually. In 2016 there were 1.61 billion domestic visits, 1.67 billion in 2017, and 1.85 billion in 2019.According to FAITH, around 4,500 hotels are being unable to run because of the pandemic.
