Date of Notification: 30th July 2020

Relevant Sections and Rules:

  • Central Goods and Services Tax Rules, 2017 (Amended):
    • Rule 48 – Manner of issuing e-invoices

Summary of Notification

  1. Substitution of FORM GST INV-01 – New Schema for e-Invoice:
This notification substitutes the earlier FORM GST INV-01 with a new and comprehensive format/schema under Rule 48 of the CGST Rules, 2017.

📄 The new Form GST INV-01 prescribes a standardized schema for e-invoice generation and reporting.

🧾 The schema includes detailed fields and cardinality for all essential components like:

  • Basic invoice details
  • Supplier and recipient information
  • Line item-level tax breakup
  • Transport details (for e-way bill generation)
  • Support for references like contracts, tenders, projects
  • Batch details, warranty, and attribute info

✅ Mandatory elements include IRN (Invoice Reference Number), document type and date, HSN codes, tax rates, and values.

🔁 The format allows structured and automated transmission of invoice data to the Invoice Registration Portal (IRP) for validation and IRN generation.

This amendment is part of the government’s broader objective of enabling real-time reporting and auto-population of returns, facilitating transparency and easier compliance.
